Beading tubes

After our first b-tech meeting of the year I wanted to try doing something that would make my my beaded jewellery look like it has been done by a jeweller and add in some jewellery making skills
So I decided to make my own beads from silver and copper tubes and then tried to bead a few test pieces.

Beading jump rings

Using tiny jump rings as beads.

Statement

Just trying something new by braiding strings off beads together to create one big neckpiece. Now I want to figure out how to incorporate jewellery making skills with this.

Designing

The bigger beads that I have used as a base for my have smaller holes this time around so after they have been beaded it will be impossible to add some silver wire in it. I have been thinking of different ways of actually making my piece.

Getting help

I hired someone to make my beaded beads for me but the problem was that I found that person through someone else and I had explained qhat I wanted and how I wanted it to the other person, when I collected the beads they where not what I expected and where not completely round. I realised that I hadn't explained what I needed to that lady so we sat down and I showed her how I want my beads to be done and she did them again.

Making stock

The patina pieces are a good way to make  pieces that get sold quickly and are easy to make plus they are alot cheaper.

Pieces for the market

I made a whole new range of my enamelled leaves jewellery  for the festive season to give to Rosey for the market.

New technique

Trying to get the triangle from the Nongoma beading by arranging the beads in a triangle while enamelling

Test piece

This is the first piece I have made by making patterns from beads while enamelling. I'm excited about using this technique in my jewellery and wait to design beautiful jewellery.

folding

Now that I have looked at some jewellers that are folding their metal I've done pieces in they way that they are doing and I have realised that I don't  have to make complicated folds for my jewellery i just need to make simple ones and do them well.

Anna Bader

Anna Bader uses very simple folds in silver that are affective and gold plates her pieces for contrast.

Rose Warner

The way Rose Warner folds her silver plate to complicated folds but she peeress the metal where she want her folds to be which make it simpler to fold.

Pichulik

One of the jewellery that I fell in love with at the beginning of last year was Pichulik by Katherine-Mary Pichulik. She uses rope to make her jewellery and make beautiful big pieces. She out sources all her materials and then puts everything together.  You can find her jewellery in small shops like Purrs, accessorize and YDE and online.

kirsten Goss

These are two pieces from Kirsten Goss who make everything and even sets semi-precious gemstone in them. Kirsten Goss’s jewellery is done very traditionally but still following fashion trends and she has a shop in Durban and sells her jewellery overseas and has an on line shop.

Genevieve Motley

Genevieve Motley uses laser cutting and found objects and outsources everything else to make her jewellery and she sells it on line.

tasals

tasals are also one of the trends that i wanna look at

folding metal

Vogue also got folding metal as one of the jewellery trends of the season and I'm looking at folding up metal as an interesting technique  that i want to do more of in the future.

green

After making the beaded pieces I learned that vogue had the colour green as the the colour of the season. turns out I was following the trends without realizing it. Now i think that i should look at start by looking at the trends first then making a fashion statement piece and making a range of jewellery from that statement piece.

happy mistakes

Trying to fix the neck piece  that i did for palmeits was a nightmare so i decided redo everything and start making smaller pieces of jewellery that would be a range of jewellery taken from one big piece .  i think this is whats i will be doing for the rest of my b tech, Making one ramp piece and then lots of spin of pieces for retail
